Job Summary

The Cardiology Access unit is seeking a Patient Care Assistant I (PCA), with Day and Night availability, and to provide rotating weekend and holiday coverage.

Ellison 11 is a (36) bed Cardiology Access unit, located in Boston, MA. Staff on this unit specializes in the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, heart failure and other vascular diagnoses. U.S. News & World Report has ranked MGH among the top in the country in Cardiology in 2024-2025.

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

  • Assisting the healthcare team, the PCA promotes a safe and caring environment for patients under the mentorship of an RN.
  • PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.
  • Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport patients, using the appropriate physical technique, in a safe manner for the patient and self.

Required : Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care.

Preferred: Licensed, certified, or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program, at the time of hire, OR Candidate enrolled in a Nursing, Pre-Med, PA undergraduate program, with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed, at time of hire .
