Position Summary: The
Farm Team Lead will oversee the day-to-day operations of a team working on the farm, ensuring the effective management of crop production and livestock (chicken) care. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating farm activities, supervising staff, and ensuring that farming operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner.
You will also work closely with the Farm Manager and leadership to execute production plans, implement smart farming technologies, and maintain high standards of animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities: - Team Supervision and Leadership: Lead, guide, and support the farm team in daily tasks. Assign specific duties and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards.
- Crop and Livestock Management Support: Assist in monitoring and caring for crops and livestock, ensuring the health and productivity of both. This includes overseeing chicken welfare, feeding, housing, and general care.
- Operational Coordination: Help coordinate and execute farm activities, including planting, harvesting, irrigation, pest management, and animal care.
- Technology Integration: Assist in the integration and monitoring of smart farming technologies, including automated irrigation, climate control, and environmental sensors, to optimize farm operations.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure the team adheres to farm safety protocols, maintains equipment properly, and complies with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Staff Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to new and existing farm workers, ensuring they understand farm procedures, safety practices, and proper equipment usage.
- Inventory and Supplies: Help monitor inventory levels of materials such as feed, seeds, and fertilizers. Ensure that supplies are available as needed for farm operations.
- Collaboration with Farm Manager: Work closely with the Farm Manager to implement production schedules, evaluate farm performance, and support farm-wide operational goals.
Required Skills and Qualifications: - Experience in Agriculture:
- Strong hands-on experience in crop and livestock management, including poultry farming (specifically chickens).
- Familiarity with smart farming technologies (e.g., automated irrigation, sensors, climate control systems) is a plus.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Proven experience leading or supervising teams, with the ability to assign tasks, offer constructive feedback, and motivate staff.
- Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members, the Farm Manager, and external stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving and Organization:
- Ability to address issues as they arise, resolve problems efficiently, and maintain workflow.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure that tasks are carried out on time and in an orderly manner.
- Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with farm equipment and machinery.
- Ability to assist with farm technology integration and basic troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in an agricultural setting.
- Physical Stamina:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, walking, and operating machinery.
Preferred Qualifications: - Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or coursework in agriculture, animal science, horticulture, or a related field is a plus, but not required.
- Certifications:
- Certifications in farm management or safety (e.g., OSHA certification, First Aid/CPR) are advantageous.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience working in farming, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Bi-lingual candidates preferred, but not required.
Work Conditions: - Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Physical tasks may include lifting heavy objects, operating machinery, and moving around the farm.
