FAA Expert Technical Writer

Place of Performance: Washington, DC

FAA clearance/background investigation

Nationwide IT Services, NIS, is seeking an Expert Technical Writer for a potential opportunity to support our FAA customer.

Location: Remote but must be located within the Washington, DC Metropolitan area or be able to travel, as needed, to attend meetings and perform tasks, such as providing onsite training with a minimum of one day's notice.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide support to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Business Management System (BMS).
2. Provide technical support for the development and maintenance of BMS processes.
3. Perform technical writing, editing, and maintenance of BMS-related documents.
4. Evaluate and report BMS program performance and progress.
5. Support process reviews and continuous improvement activities. Analyze and report on the quality and timeliness of continuous improvement data. Track and report on the status of open continuous improvement actions.
6. Conduct studies and analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning.
7. Prepare and submit regular reports on program assessments.
8. Assist in developing effective strategies for various programs.
9. Manage and coordinate program activities and timelines.
10. Conduct process reviews within the BMS following FAA defined formats.
11. Generate process review reports detailing findings and opportunities for improvement.
12. Collaborate with FAA BMS point of contact (POC) and/or process owners in documenting and facilitating processes.
13. Utilize and support the BMS Process Database for tracking and controlling document development and status.
14. Ensure that SharePoint sites and web platforms are updated, functional, and user-friendly.
15. Facilitate internal communication and information dissemination through effective platform management.
16. Transition sites and repositories for non-conformance tracking and resolution.
17. Maintain KSN2 and other technologies such as SharePoint Online, PowerBI, and Tableau.
18. Coordinate with AIT project managers to transition document archives and maintain current information on sites.
19. Ensure the AIT QMS intranet website is up to date with new processes and retired outdated ones.
20. Perform semi-annual validations of website content against the process database and report findings.

Qualifications and Special Knowledge Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree and fifteen (15) years of relevant experience or an associate’s degree with a minimum of four (4) additional years of relevant experience.
2. Bachelor’s degree must be in engineering, math, and/or science.
3. When supporting tasks that are Information Technology Systems Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or Network Analysis/Design/Test, any combination of degree, certification, and relevant experience will be considered if the relevant experience requirement is satisfied.
4. FAA clearance/background investigation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Advanced ability to design and develop Microsoft Products including Office, Project, and SharePoint.
2. Excellent writing, editing, drafting, and journaling skills, including the ability to design and create documents and artifacts from notional ideas.
3. Conceptual and practical understanding of all project management knowledge areas preferred.
4. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and handle tight deadlines.
5. Highly responsive to requested needs.
6. Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
7. Ability to work with confidential and proprietary information using utmost discretion.
